The Scripture Student

Every once in a while, you come across a free Bible Study tool that is robust and very handy.  That tool is the Blue Letter Bible app that is available for iOS and Android.  It is primarily a tool that places an emphasis on having translations of the Bible in your hands though it also offers lexical aids, word searches, four narrated Bibles, articles, commentaries, study charts, a section for notes, and much more.

There are over 25 versions of the Bible that can be quickly cross-referenced to the underlying Hebrew or Greek (assuming it is an English version) and tagged with Strong’s Concordance’s Number system.  The Hebrew can be researched further with Gesenius’ Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon and the Greek can be further explored through means of Thayer’s Greek Lexicon.

Another practical value is that the app is organized so that the Bible is tied to the tools that help to enrich one’s study by just a handful of buttons.  Currently, this is my go-to app on my iPhone when I need to quickly look up a Scripture and have a good sense of the words underlying the English translations.

By the way, in case you are curious, it is called the Blue Letter Bible because back when it first came out in 1996, many of the hyperlinks were blue and this program had hundreds of thousands of blue links.  So, they called it the Blue Letter Bible (sort of a playful twist on red-letter Bibles).

I highly recommend this app for your phone.  It packs a pretty good punch and, of course, you can’t beat the price.
